Half bound navy blue leather and marbled boards. Banded spine with gilt lettering on burgundy title patches and decoration.
BOOK CONDITION
Boards are generally quite worn and scuffed, commensurate with age. Hinges slightly weakened but bindings secure. Some browning and a little foxing mostly affecting outer leaves, text and images remain mostly clear and little marked. The folding maps in volume two are intact and quite well preserved. Tissue guards to frontispieces are very browned but intact.

A three volume edition of this work, which has been published in various formats. The original work by Hume was added to by Smollett, and then Henry Stebbing and Edward Farr who covers the early Victorian age. Illustrated throughout with many monochrome plates. Volume two includes 30 folded maps covering the country. Each volume 27.5 x 20 cm.
